FAQs
Q. What ages and levels is World Class Squash designed for?
A. For the junior camps, campers are ages 11 to 18, and they are split into groups by age and ability. All levels of players, beginner to elite, are welcome for both the junior and adult camps. Our small size enables us to tailor instructor to players’ different ability levels.
Q. What do I need to bring?
A. Squash racquet(s), eyewear, and non-marking shoes; a bathing suit, towels, and running shoes; enough clothes for a week of camp (laundry will not be available); linens for a single bed; and toiletries. You should also make sure you have the completed Health Form and Medication Form.
Q. When should I arrive?
A. Campers who are boarding should arrive between 4 pm and 6 pm the Sunday of the start of their session. Signs will guide you to the right place to check in. Day campers should arrive at the Rosenbaum Squash Center at 8:30 am the Monday their session starts. Pick up is at 3 pm on the final day of the session.
Q. How is the food?
A. Great! Bon Appétit Management Company manages dining services at Wesleyan University. Bon Appétit specializes in providing flavorful, nutrious foods prepared from scratch and using local ingredients whenever possible. For every meal there is always a range of foods to choose from, and Wesleyan has been voted a #1 school for vegetarian food. We also provide snacks for campers, and there is a convenience store on campus if campers want to buy additional snacks.
Q. What are the dorms like?
A. Campers stay in a Wesleyan dormitory conveniently located within minutes of the squash courts and the dining facilities. The dorms are air conditioned, a recent upgrade that makes World Class Squash one of the few camps to have air conditioned courts and dorms. The dorms have common areas stocked with games and snacks, and though they don’t have a TV, there is wi-fi.
Q. Will I have a roommate? Can I share a room with a friend?
A. Younger campers typically have roommates, though singles are available for older campers upon request. We’re happy to accomodate campers who wish to room together in doubles or triples.
Q. What will we do in the evenings?
A. After dinner, there is usually a session where campers might watch an exhibition match, review video footage, or have a discussion about some aspect of squash. Following the evening session, campers have free time to relax, unwind, and have fun together. We have games and some sporting equipment, and the dorm has a common area as well as a large lawn.
Q. What is the level of supervision?
A. With the 3:1 players-to-coaches on-court ratio, campers are continually supervised when they are playing or do strength and conditioning exercises. Dorm parents, who include trained first aid responders as well as Wesleyan squash players, provide supervision in the evening, during meals, and when the campers are in dorms.
